Scumbria - Re: "Alpha systems will never be able to
compete with Intel because of their $100,000 price tag?"

The $250 was a CPU price - not a SYSTEM price.

Elmer's comments about ALPHA systems are still very appropriate.

Do us a favor - check out Compaq's Web Site and report back what 21264 Alpha Server SYSTEMS are selling for.

Re: "Alpha partner Samsung is now selling fast processors for as little as $250
Didn't Elmer say a few months ago that Alpha systems will never be able to compete with Intel because of their $100,000 price tag? I remember very clearly having that discussion with him."

I posted an article which quoted $55,000 (or thereabouts) for a 21264 upgrade motherboard. I stated that if this was the cost of a 21264 it wouldn't do very well. Can someone show us a link to where these Samsung claims of $250 can be verified? Is this a 21264 or a 21164?
