rll,

The serial connection is very slow. I would guess it takes 3 or 4 minutes to download a single 3.5 or 4.0 MB song.

I looked at the Rio! tonite. The high school student working at Best Buy told me they were a hot ticket and that he had one himself. It comes with a pass-through parallel port connection that is very fast. He told me he can upload a song in a few seconds. It has 32 MB of memory on-board. They had 8 MB SmartMedia cards in the display case (the CF cards were sold out, buy the way) and apparently Diamond sells 32 MB cards? That is what he told me in any case. The sound quality is great. It is a really slick gadget.

I suspect portable mp3 players, PDA's and digital cameras will top the list for Christmas gifts in 1999.
