Dipster, Why are you so obsessed with what might happen to the Republicans in 2000? I think it's a case of you trying to frighten someone. I'm not frightened, the Senate does not appear to be frightened, nobody is frightened. You appear to be hysterical.

Only a dip would think he could predict the elections this far out :-)

The situation is, as they say, fluid.

I just backtracked into this post through George's response. I've wondered the same thing as he has for quite some time now.

You constantly repeat this (belief? hope? mantra?) that the Republicans have "committed political suicide" and "will get what's coming to them in 2000" and now, are "all set to lose the Senate in the year 2000" and so on and on and on and on and on...

Just who are you trying to convince?

It's odd. At one time I would have tended to agree with you that the Republicans were going to pay a dear price in 2000, although I didn't see this as a reason why they should have given up. Personally I feel that going on in the face of that potential doom is honorable, but I wouldn't expect a Clinton partisan to understand the concept of honor. But you know, it's reached the point that every time you say this it rings more hollow than the last time. Now I feel more sure that the Republicans will survive this every time I read one of these more and more desperate sounding posts. Lately it's been making me think of a lonely little person in a room lit only by the glow of a TV screen, both hands clasped protectively over a lottery ticket, repeating "I'm gonna win... I'm gonna win... I'm gonna win..."

Hang in there,
