Inprise Newsgroups Just finished digging through the newsgroups, and came away encouraged over the positive reception this change appears to be receiving internally at Borland (and I do mean Borland).

FWIW, I continue to think that a company with *both* a killer developer tools division *and* enterprise-level products is a good combo. By comparison, Oracle is big but hollow on the inside due to weak foundations (PLSQL, Oracle Forms, and several directions that petered out, such as OPO, Sedona etc)... similarly Peoplesoft has suffered due to its feeble proprietary "language". Neither of those companies is exactly hurting, but both have now had to head for Java-land... and it's by no means a foregone conclusion that Java is the answer to responsive applications for all situations.

But that said, to sell to big enterprise I.S. you have to look like you have staying power, and $5 doesn't look very sturdy. Hence the devoted support of independent-minded developers and independent shops is crucial... and that appears to be what borland.com is directed at... both support of that market now, and development of the higher class of tools that keeps them interested.

I hate $5, and it's easy to be irritated that the route to here was this bumpy when other routes seemed more obvious along the way, but otherwise here doesn't look so bad.
