Move to retail? They (and STB) are already there. STB had the third bestselling card at retail in November with their V2. According to the last conference call no cardmaker now sell's more that 10% of 3dfx's total. The "customers" you speak of don't seem to give a rat's behind who makes the card as long as it says 3dfx.

You could be right. That's why I opened it up to debate on these things to see different points of view. It is worth noting, however, that at $25 per chip the 2000 appears to be priced UNDER Banshee. That would imply a lower cost struture, but that isn't necessarily true of course.
