I wonder if there will be a place for Reed at the new LU, I hope so as it seems political connections never hurt.

Connections: You were recently appointed to Ascend's Board of Directors. Please share with us your thoughts on being a part of a company like Ascend and how this position relates to what is going on in the telecommunications industry.
I feel lucky to be involved with a company like Ascend. President and CEO Mory Ejabat has put together a board that sparks ideas very easily. In the last few years, I've met everyone from the guy who invented the Internet to the guy who is accused of monopolizing it. Comparing across the whole range, Mory is a first-rate business leader with a brilliant long-term strategic view on where communications is going in the 21st century.

Reed Hundt is the former chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and a key force behind the implementation of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. His long list of notable appointments includes positions on the boards at Allegiance Telecom, NorthPoint Communications, Novell and now Ascend.
