closed cable' problem is a serious issue,'' AOL Senior Vice President George Vradenburg said.

We concur with Chairman Kennard that the 'closed cable' problem is a serious issue,'' AOL
Senior Vice President George Vradenburg said. ''We look forward to working toward a swift
resolution with the commission and those in Congress who have shown a growing interest in this
important issue.''

But privately, some industry officials feared that they had lost one of their best opportunities to
gain equal access to cable Internet services.

To the individual the free market looks unfair. That's why the free market is fair for the group. The last mile will be decided by the free market. That means vicious competition. The FCC will not be able to weed the neanderthals from this department. The competition is not between DSL and fiber, it's between different companies providing cable or different companies providing DSL. The capacity constraint characteristics of each bifurcates the market into the high and low end.

In the future DSL will compete with 56.6 and basic cable will compete with super broadband. What is super broadband? Private network Pure pulled 10 mbps minimum throughput offered at $200/mo 0 defect guaranteed. ATHM and AOL may not be the suppliers of Super. I can't divulge who is developing Super yet, but I will be discussing some of its technology as it is made available to me.
