ins New Broadcast Systems Contract to Build Digital Systems Infrastructure from NOB

BEAVERTON, Ore., January 25, 1999 --Major projects to rebuild the transmission infrastructure and install a new server-based commercial transmission facility for the three Dutch national channels (Nederlands 1, 2 and 3) are the highlights of a new multimillion dollar series of contracts for leading broadcast systems' vendor, Tektronix, Inc. with top Dutch broadcasting services corporation, NOB (Nederlands Omroepproduktie Bedrijf NV). NOB will use the newly-automated Profile® video server-based transmission facility to broadcast TV10 and Fox TV which will go on air in October.

The deals were negotiated by Tektronix' Dutch distributor, AV Media and Technology BV (Amsterdam), and include a new complete transmission facility for the Dutch Wereldomroep (World Broadcasting) Channel and a pilot contract with NOS Sports channel for a server-based logging and editing system facilitated by NOB.

In one of its first commercial implementations in Europe, six new Tektronix Profile PDR300 video servers incorporating MPEG-2 4:2:2 Profile@Main Level will provide the background for the main transmission infrastructure. In addition, the installation will feature a Tektronix Grass Valley(TM) M-2100 master control switcher, Grass Valley routing products and Tektronix WFM601 waveform monitors for signal analysis. The station automation system from OmniBus Systems will handle the media management and overall control of the system.

Four of the Profile PDR300s will be devoted to recording, storing and playing out all shortform material on the three public channels including promos, stings and shorter program material. The other two will be dedicated to the separate commercial transmission facility. As part of the transmission process, this facility will be linked by a Fibre Channel/ATM network to the NOB complex for transferring data and media. The specific commercial transmission project should be completed by the middle of 1999.

NOB also recently placed a contract with Tektronix and AV Media for a complete transmission facility for the Dutch Wereldomroep (World Broadcasting) channel. The new facilities for this channel, which is scheduled to be operational in January next year, also features Tektronix Profile PDR200 video servers with RAID storage and a Grass Valley M-2100 master control system.

As part of a pilot contract with AV Media for the delivery and installation of a new server-based logging and editing system for use by NOS Sports channel, NOB has purchased two Tektronix Profile PDR200 video servers and a V.I.P4500 online editing system. The objective of the project is to provide the channel with the experience of working with server-based equipment and Fibre Channel networking.

The newly automated transmission facility for the TV10 and Fox TV channels, both of which are broadcast by NOB, went to air on October 1. This system features two Tektronix Profile PDR200 video servers, a Grass Valley M-2100 master control and an Odetics TC45 cart machine. Again, the station automaton system from OmniBus Systems provides media management and control.
