<How are you able to guarantee this now????>

Sigh. People just have to keep barking the same old fears over and over again.

Remember that the CPU ID is turned OFF by default. If the CPU ID is turned on unwittingly by some program, that's a malicious program, plain and simple, and it belongs in the same category as those macro viruses, misbehaved ActiveX components, e-mail attachment bombs, etc.

How do you know that Microsoft isn't surreptitiously scanning your hard drive and sending the information over the Net every time you use dial-up access? After all, that Windows 98 sure does seem slower than Windows 95 ...

Bruce, Re: 3) That said, an ironclad control mechanism is key to making this chip both useful and acceptable. Computer users must have the option of turning off the ID in the same way telephone users can block caller ID.

I don't know about your area, in my area, emergency calls( like 911)
can see the ID even the users block it.

The only way you can have guaranteed privacy is 'not
connected'.

Bruce - Re: "Lets look at the pravacys this twit is asking the
rest of us to give up so he can feel better:"

Why don't you look at your own SI profile - and tell us about all your personal privacy that you have voluntarily given up - and provided to one and all - for free.

How can youi claim to be concerned about privacy and yet give up your life story to any hack that can get on to the net?
