Wit explained the numbers on another IPO.
Seems that the order number is for ALL orders
on Wit, not just IPOs. There's really no way to
know how many people ordered the IPO vs. just
doing business with Wit. Certainly a timestamp
close to the time the offer was first presented
on the web (I think the email notices are after
the fact) would give one a good chance at some
shares.

The first number I saw is 43918 1/28/99. Most people on witcapital
are very activity. When they post on the wit, I think that they
are first come. Different I.P.O have different nubmer to start
MarketWatch 318xx
VerticalNet 439xx
PCNTF 263xx
