Do you doubt that history would have been quite different?
Chaos theory shows that a decision to brush a nat from your eyes will change future events dramaticly. (actually the proof was that the power exerted by a butterfly wing could make the difference between having a hurricane the next year or not). Suppose that speculation has no real merit.

That's for the historians to decide, Neocon. As I said, I make no judgement. Nasty things were done in the cold war, and unfortunately a lot of nasty "authoritarian" regimes remain in power, mostly on our side. Not much left of the "global communist conspiracy".
