CTC,

You comment, This [AOL] is an excellent company with wonderful growth prospects, but I don't understand why it has a market capitalization of $80 BB.

Because it's discounted not until tomorrow or the day after but the hereafter. Of course, until there's some reason to believe AOL might not live up to people's lofty expectations, it will continue to trade substantially ahead of fundamentals and scare anyone who understands even the basics of valuation, me included.
Best,
--Steve

CTC,

In 5 years, can you conceivably forsee AOL having over half the market cap of MSFT? Irrespective of the current financial data and based on the trends in society towards the internet and the seeming gorilla status that AOL is obtaining as an ISP and content provider, this seems feasible.

That may explain a little why the market cap is 80B, and why it may be a wise investement as a long term play even though it is ahead of itself in terms of current earnings. That is also why I don't even attempt to trade this, even when it rises or drops suddenly--in the long run they are in great shape to be THE company as we shift to the online paradigm.

Can you justify MSFT market cap.? It's not the numbers my friend, it's like land, it's what ever the market can bear.
