avoiding the issue My point is that it is difficult to show the cause of the colapse of the Soviet Union. I think it was a generational shift. The Soviet Union leaders could all be traced back to the original revolution until they finally got so old they died out. Breshnev was the last of the old guard. Gorbechev represented a new era, changing eras is a time of risk, and the Soviets could not make the transition. I'm glad the U.S. seems to be able to transition it's generational shift with nothing more than a giant pissing contest as the downside. TP
