VRIO.. I'm holding unless I report a sell and not likely. I just put 200 GNET in my intermediate/long term portfolio. It is my feeling you should always have a small portion of a good 'net stock.. I used to hold cmgi but I like the more variety in being able to pick and choose.

Watch list January 28 and January 29 (the elusive numbers)

Watch List for January 28, 1999

Sometimes when I prepare the newsletter I like to put some stocks aside as alternates I usually discard them because of technical reasons. Once in a while a stock that is discarded improves to such an extent that it 'shouts' to take a prominent position back into the watch list/newsletter CLYS is such a stock. Pay special attention tomorrow to CLYS and SFA reports tomorrow and CLYS reports on Friday. Same with ZRAN these three are for tomorrow and will provide the best opportunity. The others can provide opportunity through Friday but of course anything can happen tomorrow.

Still bullish on our internets especially with great report from MSPG. PVSW reported after the close and beat estimates.

1> <<SFA - SCIENTIFIC ATLANTA INC .SPE>> * BEST Chart
1-Dy = 103.2 10MA = 102.7 Sto9V= 54.8 Price= 29.6
W14dV= 66.5 Mm12H= -1.8
A picture perfect chart. Price just pierced resistance of 29 on Wednesday and chart is not overbought. Reports tomorrow watch this one carefully.

2>AZA - ALZA CORP .DRU Best turnaround
1-Dy = 102.9 10MA = 100.3 Sto9V= 35.3 Price= 45.9
W14dV= 44.9 Mm12H= -0.8 = 0.0 Unusual chart.. down indicators are bearish but the stock closed at high of the day on Wednesday and what's more it closed above resistance of 45 1/2. Earnings out tomorrow, someone knows something? Watch this tomorrow.

On November 4, 1998 Hambrecht & Quist: 'A BUY rating was maintained. The company acquired a urology product from SmithKline Beecham called Urispas. Urispas is used to treat painful symptoms of urinary incontinence and painful urination that sometimes accompanies an enlarged prostate or urinary tract infection.'

3> CLYS - CATALYST INTL INC .DSO BEST earnings play
1-Dy = 101.1 10MA = 108.1 Sto9V= 85.9 Price= 15.8
W14dV= 72.0 Mm12H= 5.1
Another excellent chart here. Plus upgrade before earnings. Earnings out 29th.. expectng 450% increase in earnings from same quarter last year.

4> HMA - HEALTH MGMT ASSOC INC NEW CL A .HEA
1-Dy = 110.3 10MA = 93.0 Sto9V= 12.6 Price= 13.4
W14dV= 33.2 Mm12H= -4.1
Closed at high of the day.. Institutional interest here.

5>ZRAN - ZORAN CORP .ESE
1-Dy = 98.7 10MA = 97.5 Sto9V= 52.6 Price= 14.4
W14dV= 47.9 Mm12H= -7.7 = 0.0
ZRAN had a whopping 300% earnings surprise last quarter. It reports after the close so obviously if it moves down ignore it. If it moves up it could be a good daytrade if it breaks through resistance of 15 1/2 it could conceivably be a play through earnings, but here there is risk. ZRAN has an interesting chart. looks like it might reverse. Relative strength is bullish and stochastics are oversold. Resistance is at 15 1/2.

1/14/99: Preferred Capital Markets, Inc., a brokerage firm servicing both institutional and individual investors with a focus in technology, telecommunications and medical technology, today upgraded its rating of Zoran Corporation (Nasdaq: ZRAN - news) to a BUY from an ACCUMULATE rating and a twelve-month price target of $20.

6> MISI - METRO INFORMATION SVCS INC .DSO
1-Dy = 102.0 10MA = 106.3 Sto9V= 83.7 Price= 33.6
W14dV= 70.9 Mm12H= 2.1
Earnings out Feb 2 confirmed.. this always beats estimates by a fraction. It was up on a down day. Really nice chart. All indicators bullish and stochastics comfortable indicating MISI is not overbought. Volume indicators are perfect with both negative and positive volume index bullish

7> MCRE* - METACREATIONS CORP .DCS for the long haul
1-Dy = 103.3 10MA = 106.1 Sto9V= 76.1 Price= 8.8
W14dV= 66.6 Mm12H= 2.8
Reporting the 29th and whenever a stock has just a small loss like -0.02 and the stock is up on anticipation on a down day you wonder if someone here knows something.

Watch List for January 29, 1999

What looks at first to be 9 watch list candidates is actually only 6.. I carried over 3 from the newsletter other watch list, because they triggered buy signals yesterday. They are SHX, TKLC. Instead of just telling you to watch yesterdays list I brought over AMMB which is in a nice uptrend. Of course you should still watch CNCX +20 yesterday but these 10 below will probably be enough.

These articles and a number of new ones will be in the Well-Informed Trader Portion of the menu and on the Gems On SI page.. These are some pointers on how to use our watch lists to their ultimate.

1-Dy = 106.4 10MA = 95.5 Sto9V= 22.2 Price= 24.8
W14dV= 47.3 Mm12H= -7.7 = 0.0
looks like beginning of trend change. Momentum looking ready to pierce through the zero line for a momentum breakout. RSI turning bullish and MACD is oversold. Stochastic looking to turn positive as well.

3> ADIC - ADVANCED DIGITAL INFO CORP .DSE Oversold , above resistance.
1-Dy = 103.2 10MA = 96.4 Sto9V= 6.8 Price= 17.8
W14dV= 51.8 Mm12H= 0.1 = 0.0
Signs abound for a reversal. Relative strength is neutral and the volume indicators are mixed. Positive Volume Index is bullish but the Money Flow Index slope is still turned upwards. Stochastics are oversold yet ADIC broke through resistance yesterday of 17 1/2..

4> AMMB - AMRESCO INC .FDM Strong upward trend
1-Dy = 106.6 10MA = 106.3 Sto9V= 55.3 Price= 12.1

1-Dy = 106.5 10MA = 98.7 Sto9V= 21.3 Price= 20.3

1-Dy = 107.7 10MA = 97.5 Sto9V= 23.4 Price= 13.0
W14dV= 59.5 Mm12H= 3.3
Ranked #1 out of 19 in the shoes/Rel Apprl sector. Had a tremendous quarter in September and now looking for 100% increase for quarter 4. 33% positive surprise last quarter and 43% second quarter.
Although the estimates for this quarter are for $0.15 and down from last quarter which was $0.20, we measure growth compared with the same quarter last year. Last year GSPT EPS was a negative $-1.17. Growth of 134% projected. Stock already on a tear this month up 116%.. Looks like a good position or intermediate trade. Watch this for earnings confirmation. Earnings out the 4th of Feb.

Do you like GSPT at these levels? I wanted to get in earlier this week at 11 but it is now past 14. What is your target?
