Ms. Long has senior management responsibility at Time Inc. for consumer marketing, customer service, newsstand distribution, production, human resources, administrative services and corporate communications. She is a former publisher and president of Time magazine. In July 1991, she was named the magazine's 13th publisher, the first woman to hold that position, and in September 1993, she became president, the first person to hold that position in the magazine's 70-year history. She assumed her current duties in May 1995. Ms. Long joined Time Inc. in 1979 to work on the circulation staff of Time magazine. In 1982, she became circulation director of Fortune magazine and later held the same position for Sports Illustrated and Time. Ms. Long was named publisher of Life in December 1986, becoming the first woman publisher of a Time Inc. magazine. In November 1988, she was named publisher of People and in April 1989 was promoted to senior vice president of Time Inc. She is a native of Winston-Salem, N.C., and a resident of New York City. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Hollins College in Roanoke, Va. She received a master's degree in business administration from Harvard Business School in 1979.
