CompUSA's earnings on 2/3/99 are expected to be .17 and
the Whisper.com number whisper # is .24. I looked at Whisper.Com
last Thursday for the first time and saw the whisper number for
Mercury Interactive (MERQ) was .47 and the expected was for
.41 so I bought a couple hundred shares. The actual EPS came
in at .47 just like the whisper #. Have you had any experience with
the reliability of Whisper.com's whisper #'s ? I own quite a bit of
CPU and was wondering if I should get some more prior to the
earnings release next Wednesday as the MERQ position worked
out quite well for me.

Bill,
I think Fridays release and subsequent gain in the share price
of CPU marked the bottom for this company, and
have picked up some March $12.5 calls. I know you are not
trying to time the move higher, but it seemed to me to be
a relatively safe option play.
The fact that CPU has held
most of the gain in todays weak market further suggests that
we are in the early stage of a rally. When the dust finally
settles on the internut mania, I think that established
retailers with strong web presence will benefit the most.
Thanks for all your info, this is one of the best threads on SI.
