"In February, the firm will roll out the software to customers of its fledging Internet brokerage unit (1), which currently has just 3,000 accounts. Southwest has spent little on marketing the site, unlike cyberspace brokerages such as E*Trade Group Inc.(Nasdaq:EGRP - news), which recently rolled out a $100 million ad campaign.

''We really don't subscribe to the philosophy of pouring money into advertising (because) it drives up your cost per account,'' Hodges said."

I'd say that the bouncing ball wasn't extremely successful. No wonder they don't want to spend more money on ads.

Let's hope that after they get their new software rolling that they devise some way to get the word out!
