Rock, just to add to the post of reasons for not as much daytrading in Canada:
(1) fewer people trading in general
(2) fewer cycles on stocks - a statistical study would prove this hypothesis very true
(3) not as much movement in stocks
(4) fewer 'under-sharized' stocks
(5) Cannucks daytrading US stocks vs Cdn stucks
(6) on larger cap stocks, great number of shares, which typically requires volume for moves - and the aggregate of retail daytrading investors is unlikely to have a great effect on a stock
(7) decimalization means the smallest unit increment is 5 cents on stocks over some (i think $2) price level - increment on US stocks typically 1/8 or 1/16
(8) commissions 'somewhat' higher typically 3cents is lowest amount each way, so it takes more than 1 increment (5 cents) to make a profitable trade - like casinos, totally rigges in favour of the brokerage co's

Conclusion: momo trades much better, typically, on Cdn stocks

BIG risk BIG reward hell I shorted 2000 shares of SKYM on Dec 24 @ 15 covered @ 12 and said what the hell I know it's a scam and shorted 3000 @ 13 for the Christmas holiday. needless to say when the market opened after the holiday and the sucker was @ 28 I had an intiGERN. But shit happens. Too bad that sob CEO had so many shares to unload.
