Pravin, very unlikely a 1 Ghz chip will be out until 2000, probably in the same time frame as the Intel 1 Ghz chip give or take a few months.

Regarding firewire - it is an important issue. I'm quite concerned that it may cause potential adopters to move away from it and develop an open standard. There were some indications of that in the article from Japan. Also, if you follow Rambus your aware of all the opposition to components that carry royalty fees that are seen as burdensome. I just guessing, but given firewire is a few years old, it probably wouldn't take much for an IBM or an Intel to come up with an alternative within a year or so. It's a critical time for firewire because only a few early adopters have integrated it. It would be relatively painless for everyone else to delay for a year and gain themselves an open standard. Hopefully, Apple will develop a fee that is reasonable and doesn't impact adopters otherwise Apple and Sony will be left with non-standard ports. Rich
