NEWTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 1999--According to Cahners In-Stat
Group, the home U.S. HOME NETWORKING MARKET TO GROW OVER 600% BY
2003 network will become a reality throughout this year and into the millennium as it
moves beyond the domain of Silicon Valley hobbyist to mainstream use. From a market
that barely exists today, the U.S. home networking market will reach $1.4 billion by
2003. Multiple PC households lead the charge.

The number of multiple PC households in 1999 will by 21 million, with 12% of these
having some form of home network installed. Single PC households make their mark.

Contrary to the popular belief, home networking growth will come not only from
multiple PC households but single PC households as well. The number of single PC
homes with some form of network will increase from under 1% in 1999 to 9% in 2003.

"We believe that the home network will not be confined within a PC-to-PC context,"
according to Mike Wolf, industry analyst for Cahners In-Stat Group. "As set top boxes
and other gateways begin to distribute high-speed content throughout the home in new
ways, and TV-to-PC connectivity begins to see higher acceptance with the availability of
new cross platform products, single PC homes become a viable market for home
networking vendors."

Internet usage and the desire to distribute its content throughout the home is the primary
driver for the boost in home networking. Also driving demand over the next few years
will be the increased number of multiple PC homes, the home office market and the push
by PC and consumer electronic manufacturers looking for ways to create new revenue
opportunities. Thus, the growth in the home networking market creates new market and
sales opportunities across multiple industries including traditional networking vendors,
PC OEMs, consumer electronics companies and silicon providers.

Home Networking: Markets, Technologies and Vendors, is a comprehensive report that
includes a home networking market analysis, a technology review and an analysis of the
home networking companies such as Intel, Microsoft and 3Com that are leading the
market. It is co-authored by networking analyst Mike Wolf and multimedia analyst Mike
Paxton.
