Freepages Group plc (Nasdaq: FREEY) Announces Internet Partnership with Flextech Interactive

LONDON, Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Freepages Group plc, the UK interactive branded services company operating under the Scoot trading name, has formed an internet partnership agreement with Flextech Interactive, a division of Flextech Plc, the UK's leading pay-TV operator.

Flextech's wholly owned channel websites, Bravo, Living, Trouble and Challenge TV, will be supplied with the Scoot value added business database of over 2 million UK business records via each channel's internet site. The Scoot database will be targeted to the channel's specific audience profiles. For instance, on the male-oriented channel website Bravo the Scoot database could include takeaway restaurants, sports suppliers and entertainment information, whilst on the woman's channel Living website, the Scoot data may be focused on childcare and employment agencies.

Scoot and Flextech Interactive anticipate that this agreement will form the basis for other business opportunities in the future.

Robert Bonnier, Chief Executive Officer of Freepages said: 'Flextech's diverse range of channels will help us to build our brand values by creating a range of consumer-oriented, highly targeted business and service segments. This link with one of the fastest growing media groups in Europe reinforces Scoot's commitment to the development of the Scoot brand for users and subscribers across a range of expanding broadcast distribution channels.''

Commenting on the agreement: Flextech Interactive's General Manager, Ashley Highfield said, ''Scoot's business database is one of the most comprehensive and, above all, user friendly databases available in the marketplace. We are delighted to be working closely with Scoot to offer all of our hundreds of thousands of web viewers relevant, localised information to enhance their site visits.''

Scoot (UK) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Freepages Group plc. It also operates Scoot services in the Netherlands and Belgium through a joint venture with VNU. Scoot, an interactive branded services company, is adding value to the transaction process between buyers and sellers. Scoot is available via the internet on www.scoot.co.uk.

Freepages Group plc is quoted on the London Stock Exchange (FRE.L) and on Nasdaq (FREEY).

Flextech currently has interests in 13 basic tier cable and satellite channels in the UK. Its portfolio is a mixture of wholly owned channels, including Living and Bravo, and managed channels such as Discovery, plus a series of strategic investments which include stakes in programming and content providers. In addition Flextech's joint venture, UKTV, brings together the BBC's unrivaled skills in television production, programming and presentation and Flextech's expertise in multi-channel management, marketing and advertising sales.

Flextech Interactive (FI) was formed at the beginning of 1996 (then known as Flextech New Media), to bring under one division the development of channel web sites and other new media services which had been taking place since '94, when Bravo became the first UK cable and satellite channel to launch a web site. Building on this market lead, Flextech Interactive have now launched 10 successful sites and have been rewarded with three prizes at the Cable Industry Awards: best design for the Bravo and Trouble web sites, and best software design for the first internet based Electronic Programme Guide (EPG)
''Time Machine''.

FI's position in the interactive services market is that of a platform-neutral supplier of products mirroring Flextech Television's position in the supply of TV channels. Thus, Flextech Interactive's strategy is to develop market-leading, branded products and
services for implementation across all interactive platforms.

Flextech's wholly owned channels are Living (www.livingtv.co.uk), Bravo (www.bravo.co.uk), Trouble (www.trouble.co.uk) and Challenge TV (www.challengetv.co.uk). chinedu chianakwalam, I have done some basic due diligence on this one and I have to admit it looks pretty good. It might not be as sexy as some of the other internet plays being bantered about but it looks to be a solid company.
