Yeah, you need the speed when you are out there on the warez sites, downloading Windows 2000, which I have been told is out there....
You would be on for days with a 56K modem, would you?

KYA27,
Thanks for raising a valid concern about speed. Technically
both telephone lines and cables have problem in terms of scaling for
a large customer. Phone lines are slow because of present limitations of analog modem. But with xDSL that concern will be addressed.
All regional phone companies are vary concerned and aggressively
trying to spend dollars ( yes it will cost a few billion dollars of equipment cost to upgrade their COs). The same problem exists with cables. With cable, your bandwidth is limited to where you are on your street and they don't have deployed infrastructure provide one-to-one communication between any two end users. So this will cost, like regional RBOCs to spend on xDSL, tons of dollar to install switch/routers at the local ends. So both are at the same cross road as for high bandwidth solution is concerned. Your slamming of AOL lacks any understanding of how technology evolves and to what extend market forces shape them.
Do you think that AOL people are unaware of this problem?
With all the fanfare at ATHM how many subscribers do they have now?
Do you think that ATT is going to have a smooth sailing after TCI merger? I think you sound more like a short and emotional than a good balance for the thread.
All the best and
Cheers
