KYA27, buying a newer and faster modem is a 1 time cost, anyone needs
more speed just gets an internal or external modem for $30 - $120 and
plug it in, and you get more speed, NO HASSLE! No monthly charge, just
plug it in once.

I am paying $50 / month for BASIC cable channel because I have NO CHOICE, I am not going to pay $50/month more for internet access, I'll wait until the price is
below $20 /month or less, why, because I have choice. People are habitual animal, they tends to use what is already
there unless there is a special need then they will go out searching for better service, that is why ATHM has only 330,000 customers and
AOL has 17 Million customers, no secret, AOL reaches you with a
disk/CD, you just loaded following the easy installation instructions.

No appoinment, no wiring, portable, good habit, good environment, that is what AOL is providing, you can actually login the internet
anywhere in the world with your single account as long as AOL has a local or long distance number available, try that with a cable connection.

ATHM may have future but that future will grow very slow because
inconvenience. They cannot do CARPET campaign like AOL, they cannot reach oversea users like AOL, why? ANYONE in the WORLD who
owns a telephone can get to the internet and paying $20/month + - but
not everyone can get the cable internet and not paying extra monthly
fees.

Never ignore the fact that majority of people are afraid of using
computer, only intelligent people uses top-notch technology, such as yours, but intelligent people always think Hey, I can do it, so can you , wrong!

Would you please post links to representative sample\citations to a few of your:
"If you look at most of the articles on DSL you'll see problems GALORE"
articles that you refer to. I just don't recall seeing a plethora of articles complaining about problems GALORE with DSL.

Below are a few points from an article that someone else posted on this thread.

Cable
Access: Internet through TV cable
Speed: Averages 1.5 to 3 mbps
Price: About $39.95 per month.
Advantages: Continuous connection to the Net, no dial-up necessary. One single price for high average speed. Services like @Home have a large internal network cache that can reduce congestion from the Internet.
Limitations: Users in any given neighborhood share cable network's bandwidth. If many users are online simultaneously, can possibly cause congestion and slower download speeds. Service available only in small number of areas.
Startup costs: $99 to $175
Number of users: End of 1998, about 500,000 in U.S.

ADSL
Access: Internet using upgrade to existing phone lines.
Speed: 384 kbps to 7.1 mbps.
Price: About $49.95 to $189.95 per month
Advantages: Continuous connection to the Net, no dial-up necessary. Service shares phone line with traditional voice services. User has dedicated line to central phone office.
Limitations: Speed of line drops sharply with distance from main phone office. Harder to get high speeds in areas with dispersed population. Service still available only in small number of areas.
Startup costs: $200 to $550
Number of users: End of 1998, fewer than 60,000 in U.S.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: Note how AOL and Bell Atlantic are bringing the cost of ADSL in far below standard ADSL costs and lower than Cable. They will charge about $20 per month for A/DSL + the cost for AOL service. Also, that one ADSL line handles Fax, Inet and Phone simultaneously. With cable yes it cost $39 but you still have you monthly phone charge and if you live in an area that doesn't have upload available from the cable then you will need a second phone line or unplug your primary phone and use it to connect to the inet. Not put downs just a few facts my man or woman.

Nice article on @Home – also talks about speeds and pros and cons of a shared cable network.

Awaiting your links reference the problems GALORE with DSL,
By the way I don't own @HOME but I think it is a great company.

Buying ATHM and Profit is good but so is being balanced with ones statements regarding A/DSL technology which AOL will be rolling out to better serve its customers and this does not even consider the AOL agreement with QWST recently inked to begin a Broadband relationship that I'm sure will only grow with each comming year.
