I agree. To me it wasn't obvious that they would want to keep the YHOO shares.

I also agree that they should plow the proceeds back into the hothouse. But, on the other hand, you wouldn't want to tip your hand if you're planning to sell 3% ownership of YHOO, either. The smartest thing would have been "We don't comment on our plans to buy, sell, or hold various securities..."

Think CMGI's comment was merely "politically correct," Peter G.

I don't expect CMGI to keep that kind of money invested in YHOO. Plus, it has a history of "lightening up." But had CMGI said, "Well, we think YHOO is overpriced and we're gonna dump it because we can reinvest strategically..." you get the idea.

So CMGI will doubtless wait a few months and start to trickle out a bit of its investment from time to time. Be assured, it knows how to play.
