Since the backward compatibility of the so-called Superdisk is its biggest selling point, that sure seems to be a major problem. It sounds like the particular drive in your machine is defective.

If I were you, I'd get in touch with Compaq. Tell them you couldn't install your Zip drive because the Superdisk drive wouldn't read the installation floppy. They should replace your drive with one that works. You could try telling them that you'd prefer to have a Zip disk and a regular, working floppy drive. That might not work, but it would be great if they got that kind of feedback.

In the meantime, though, you can just download the latest Zip drivers from the Iomega web site, and install the Guest program from the Compaq's hard drive.
