FWIW:

I think this discussion has nicely illustrated one reason why I dislike sweeping generalizations. They are inevitably vulnerable to counter-examples and counter-arguments. As the number of counter-examples increase and the counter-arguments intensify, the sweeping generalization is slowly eviscerated even while the participants slowly sink and then drown in the quicksand of their discussion. Of course, this is a sweeping generalization...;)
