milehigh,
this cost issue was explained in detail at the conference. as the amount of dram increases the cost for rdram decreases while the cost for sdram increases. rdram actually gets cheaper than sdram. this is due to reduced pin count reqirement, etc for rdram and increased packaging needs for sdram.
perhaps a techie can elaborate.
sdram will have a continued but brief life, only until rdram becomes sufficiently available. ddrdram is merely a stopgap again only until rdram takes over. actually ddrdram is still an unknown. it only exists in theory. no one has demonstrated that it works. at least not yet.
