will probably add a third harddrive in a removable tray.

AS a backup destination?

Yes, don't tell Sean.

I do not want to restrict the size of my drives because the backup options can not keep up with harddrives.

Terastor is not here yet. I recall the drives were supposed to be out by now. Even when they do come out I believe it was $600+?? for a 10 gig drive and who knows what the media will cost. Then it is probably wise to wait at least a year before moving on the technology.

CDR is just to small. It may have some kind of boot use (in lieu of floppy??)

DVD RAM is also a possibility but similar concerns as Terastor. Sony indicates their DVD RAM drive can be standardized if others will adopt some minor changes. Probably at least a year before moving on this one.

Tape is a possible option for large drives. One problem with tape for me is I just don't like it. I used to do things I did not want to do but the older I get the less I do things I do not want to do. I have not spent much time researching tape drives. I recall seeing prices around a grand for large capacity drives.

LS120 and Zip are totally out of the question for backing up large harddrives.

Jaz..maybe but I am not interested. I simply do not want to span media for backups.

So it gets down to harddrives. They are fast, cheap and easy to configure. I plan on taking the heat and opting for a removable harddrive backup strategy.

A slave IDE harddrive in a removable frame and bios boot selections will present some interesting possibilities.

I will also incorporate CDR technology for data file backups.
