<<That's what 'they' said about AOL. AT&T and all the other cheaper ISP's were going to put AOL out of business. Guess what, they forgot that once someone is signed-up on an automatic monthly charge, they would rather pay excess fees than put in the time and effort of changing service.>>

AOL was never free. Plus AOL always offered more than an ISP.
You even get 10 meg of free web space to make a home page with AOL.

<<Changing a web-site to another provider, even if free, may not be worth saving $60 - $120 per year (hell, they can make that up in a day with their yahoo investment).>>

You think the people who have set up homepages on GeoCities are all Yahoo investors?

<<Yahoo should start charging users of Geocities. >>

But they wont.

Bad analogy tonyt. AOL never offered their service for free. It wasn't like they were giving it away like Yahoo and Geocities and suddenly started charging. Hence they never had the opportunity to lose business by going from a free service to a charged service the way Yahoo and Geocities will should they decide to charge for their service.

And should they decide to charge for Geocities home pages, I'll be more than happy to list all the other services providing it for free.

You must be talking about me. I have my ISP with PACBELL and I pay $9.95 per month for Microsoft Investor. Even though I know I could get it for free by changing to MSN.
