perhaps you could mount it in the lowest 5 1/2 bay, then leave one open, then do the 3 CD-Rom drives above.

That would probably work but I would lose the use of a bay. Maybe I should have gone for the California PC or PC power and cooling case with a bunch of external bays<G>.

I will probably end up using all five bays. My best current guess is the 3 CDROM drives, an IDE removable and a SCSI removable. What is involved with a SCSI hot swap?

With all bays full there will be virtually no air circulation between the drives.

Do they run quite hot?

Most of the time they are not running. I have an audio CDROM in the Plextor 8Plex reader (can not hear the revved up fans with the head phones on) and it is cool to the touch right now. Probably because the front bezel is off and there is a gush of air drawn in the above thru an empty bay.

The 5 1/4 bays are cooled from the side. There are two fans on each of two sides (total four fans) blowing on the side of the bays. If they blow on metal perhaps there is a cooling effect but I doubt they do much to a plastic frame.

My guess is the burner will heat up when in use. The two harddrives will also be heat sources. Spots indicated he had a Plextor that ran hot.

Cyberguys cyberguys.com has some fan cooled frames. (pull down menu 'removable harddrive racks'. $18.95 and $11.49 for additional trays).

Do your frames have circuitry? Why does a removable harddrive frame need circuitry?
