What about your 8x CD? You were having problems initially, as I recall

So far I have had no problems with the 8X Plextor. The problems have all related to the RICOH burner and now perhaps the media. I will try the old media in my new 8X Plextor writer ( If I talk myself into it)

Maybe an 8X reader is not fast enough for an 8X recorder??

Plextor has its own burn software that works between its own drives. This may prove to be an advantage in the overall success.
