Add the following to your Warning Lights :

On July 20, 1998 (just about the date of last year's high ) Saturn was approximately 2 degrees away from an exact conjunction with the natal Sun. Transiting Saturn is currently at 27 degrees and 45 minutes of Aries (as of 1/31/98). It will again be within a 2 degree orb of the S&P's natal Sun by mid-February.

Second, re: "I too am speculating that I will be buying stocks more cheaply in short order at a lower multiple on the S and P 500."

I think a great many of us are in the same boat. We are hoping for that drop in the market so we can put our cash to work. Maybe there is just too much liquidity out there to allow the market to experience that significant drop.
