Even The Washington Post stated that although it is not hard to come upon white supremacist views within the organization, it is not billed up front as that kind of organization, rather some of its members are from that background. Barr did not belong. I have no reason to doubt his account.
The traditional understanding is that statecraft requires expedients that would be considered more harshly when employed for purely personal gain, because of the greater responsibility entailed in protecting the community. But, hey, I guess I'm not the dread "absolutist" either, but recognize circumstances in moral calculation.
Partisan or not, the President is revealed to be a liar and a cad. Now, we have to react to that.
