I just take a look at the IPO filing of Cheap Tickets, an upcoming IPO. This company is profitable because it does most of its sales through the call centers. It does operate an internet site too but the bulk of its sales still goes through the call centers. For the last 9 months, the number of airline tickets sold through the internet was 56,055 while the number of tickets sold through the call centers was 626,184. This validates the business model of IFLY in that the reservation agents are necessary to maintain sales and profit margin. Now IFLY is the first company that incorporates the internet technologies with the call centers to increase its profit margin even more. The management of this company had a clear vision 10 months ago of what it takes to stay profitable in the internet age. Is this a scam company? Clearly not. A scam company would put up a non-interactive web site in a hurry to take advantage of the internet hype while the insiders sell. The officers of a scam company wouldn't be stupid enough to lock up their shares for 2 years after IPO either.
