CK -- Why you budding closet Granola-head....welcome to the wonderful world of Mother Earth News!

>>You and Tim are lucky. You didn't have to uproot and change your life and leave your friends. You don't have
family that thinks you're crazy, and are angry and concerned.<<

Did that 25 years ago...went through the whole range of responses back them from, " Are you guys nuts?" to "Man, you guys sure are lucky, wish we had a place like that."

I've been blessed with a wonderful wife who endured five months in a tent while I built a cabin which we lived in for seven years until I finished (mostly) the house. No mortgage. Paid as we built, built as we could pay. Country living has always been right for us. And, survivalist we are not and never have been. We've just always enjoyed gardening and canning and such.

My y2k concerns have always been for the weak and the vulnerable in our society. Why should anyone suffer any level of depravation or risk needlessly just because we lacked the foresight and will to deal effectivley with a problem in a timely manner?

****could you please elaborate on your friends comments after his meeting with Koskinen?

Hi Cheryl,
Congratulations on your new home!
"You don't have family that thinks your crazy, and are angry and concerned"
Unfortunately I do and I bet so does nearly everyone else that posts
on this forum.I have a brother that does economic development for a city in michigan. We have had discussions on y2k that resulted in him calling and discussing y2k preparations with the manager of the local
water systems and the airport. In short the airport won't have problems
because they have installed new systems and the FAA is ready. But,but have they tested in real time?Have they done interface testing? What proof have they that there is no embedded system problems? Are their vendors compliant?...Don't worry bro they have a new accounting system and the FAA says everythings ok... How will you get your water if the power is down?
No problemo we'll just go back to manual like we did in 1990!! But
but where do you get the manpower now that they have downsized?Don't
you need power for any pumps?for any switches, valves? And so it goes.
When you get your research cap back on check out this study on embedded systems.
