Wow, that's a pretty simplistic way of evaluating the situation.

I don't think it's simplistic. Just an obvious application of core stock market theory.

Maybe the market thinks that a breakup of Microsoft would yield more value, like the AT&T breakup did.

It wasn't a comment on whether or not a breakup would be good or bad. Just an observation that the market clearly doesn't believe something very bad will happen to MSFT.

However, I think it's safe to say that the market would view a break up as bad. If it were viewed as good then shareholders would be crying out for it, and it probably would have already occurred.
