Hi Coug... man, your post made me step back and ask myself, "have I done that?" I hope not, in that spirit anyway. I know I've posted to what I thought was purely hype, mainly posts with no DD in them, just "buy cries".

Maybe I'll watch a little closer in the future. Also feel free to PM me if you think I'm out of line. I have no problem with that. Hopefully ALL opinions are welcome here. We do have to have all sides of a stock to make a right decision.

I've enjoyed your posts and being a part of the thread. You even gave me your opinion on one stock I played, which was "be careful", and I appreciated that. Please don't stop posting.

Snerd

Hello coug, an aging hippie <g>, I can dig it man, I can really dig what you are saying.

Another thing I have learned through these blue eyes, are.. Hype comes in all forms...

True, in some way, we all try to influence others to buy or sell my stock picks. Some do it in bad forms and some do it in polite forms. If I say I never hype stocks, I am lying.

I have nothing against hyping stocks, and if I want to hype a stock, I would go to that specific thread to do it.

A few things crept in that that bothered me.. One thing was, if you mentioned a stock the thread liked, and I supposed widely owned, no matter how many many times, that was Okay.. But if another person,
and it wasn't me, mentioned a different stock more than once.. It was
Hype, and he or she was asked not to.. or leave a public thread..

I don't think this is true, but if we did, let me make an apology to that person. However if he or she posts a few times and no one responses to his/her stock picks but he/she continues to post, that might make a few people mad.

But don't be shy, go ahead and post your picks up to three times. But if no one answers your post, maybe it's time to shut up. By far, this is the friendliest thread in SI. Any where you go, you are bound to have one or two *ss h*les like myself <g>, but that's life. This world ain't perfect, nor is this thread.

Make yourself at home here coug.

Best wishes,

Jon

Coug,

I've got to admit that I'm puzzled by your post regarding hype and your statements about how this thread works.

First, I respectfully disagree with your definition of hype. You defined it as "Outrageous cheerleading, subtle remarks..team work..a refusal to look at the other side." I think of hype as statements made about an issue that encourage people to buy, without any accompanying due diligence or links to relevant information. When people have made such statements as "Buy ABC, it's gonna pop!!!!" on this thread, they're asked to provide some information about the stock and why the person thinks it's a good buy. This is an important rule here, one which sets us apart from other threads where statements like that are the norm. It also encourages our thread members to learn to do DD, which I would think you would agree is a good thing.

I take exception to the last two parts of your definition of hype "team work.. a refusal to look at the other side." This statement mystifies me. We have encouraged each other to mine other threads and news sources for information about stocks and to share it here. That is teamwork. You have already expressed concern about this practice in a post earlier this month and, to my knowledge, the idea of garnering information from for-pay news sources was not implemented for various reasons, but not because it constituted hype.

As for hype being "a refusal to look at the other side", I am mystified here as well. We have all brought stocks to the thread that have been ignored by others. This happens for many reasons, not the least of which is that we are all bound by the limits of our own trading funds and time. Not having a stock pick become a source of discussion here is certainly not a sign of failure. Nor is it hype.

And last, as one aging hippie to another, I too have seen my fair share of bull$h*t. I'm pretty good at sniffing it out and have no problem confronting it when I see it. This is why I'm an active member of this thread, where good research, respect, and a non-hierarchical community are priorities. I'm afraid you'll have to look for bull$h*t elsewhere.

Well Coug,

Since the party is over, And what happened, happened.. I hope I took
a few car keys away so some guests didn't drive away and get hurt..
I didn't want some innocents, newbies, LURKERS, to get hurt. Maybe I'm
too blunt but I seen the car wreck coming... I probably should have
entered a lot of apologetic remarks prefacing my comments, I'm sorry I
didn't.. But I wanted to warn people how the market works..It is BAAD
and cut throat..

1. SELL THE NEWS in this hot money environment, Don't BUY IT. THE
NEWS was OUT FRIDAY, or BEFORE.. WEB SITE ANNOUNCED, CFO RESIGNING,
if there is ONE PERSON YOU DO NOT want TO RESIGN BEFORE the big
DAY, it IS the Chief Financial Officer, IMO... IF the person with the keys to the safe BAILS or is kicked overboard ANYTIME, it is a big RED FLAG to me...Especially before the big day..

2. It's not all Shorters having their Day,, It is the SAVVY LONGs
selling into that early morning strength.. They overwhelm the
small NAIVE Buyers.. The Market Makers are not SHAKING OUT weak
LONGs as I read on some of these threads. They look at the order
book..They have it made as it is...Even a narrow spread on a Stock that trades millions of shares is enough for them to make out
well..

Remember the old story about a well known 1930's type gangster
that visited the NYSE and watched a Specialist in Action.. He
quoted something to the fact that "if he could have gotten into that
racket, he would have never entered into a life of crime"

So IMO, anybody that blames shorters and MMs for these days is only
looking for an excuse. .. Sure they cause bumps in the road but
they are not the sole cause of a train wreck like this..

Another thing to NEWBIES, don't bet the ranch on any one play..
5-10 percent is the very max for me..

Anyway good luck all and again I'm sorry if I stepped on some toes..

the Coug ......talking too much to himself.... Thinking about buying
down here..
