Saju,
You know what they say about three sides to a story. I can't believe that DELL would NOT send someone out to fix his notebook. They have the BEST service department. I also had an IBM APTIVA 52 and wasn't happy with the service I got with IBM. I made the mistake of getting the service contract with CompUsa instead of direct with IBM.

something went wrong with the hard drive and DELL won't take it back they expect the buyer to open the notebook up and fix the problem...

Did he drop it? Did he spill coffee on it? etc etc.

I have a HP and my sound didn't work from day one. They did everything they could first on the phone, than they sent 3 different servicemen to my home, than I insisted on a NEW computer, and they sent it right out and paid for the PICkUP of the original.
