re: PM partition info

Before I convert my Fat32 to Fat I want to under stand the info PM is stating about my existing setup.

IDE 1 = 6000mb +

VOL TYPE SIZE USED FREE

Winnt NTFS 2000 374 1626
FreeSpace 4000 0 0

This is understandable and how I understood Jon to setup. In PM Partition Info for the Winnt vol the same info is shown graphically. The only partition on IDE 1 is 2000mb in size, 374mb of which is used to store Winnt. The rest of that partition is free (1626). The rest of the physical drive is FreeSpace (4000mb). Clear to me. No problem.

IDE 2 = 8000mb+

VOL TYPE SIZE USED FREE

C: w98 Fat 32 8000 ? 7404 ? 635 ?

Here is where my reading of PM needs help. No FreeSpace is shown. C: w98 is shwn using 7404mb, practically the whole disk. Why?

When I click on this for the graphical display of Partition Info I am shown more what I expect to be the setup. That is a total partition size of 1043mb, 407mb of which is used by w98 and the other 635mb is free (empty).

My confusion lies in why the first window shows C:w98 to 7404mb and the second window shows it to be 1043mb, which I believe its size really is.

The inclusion of FreeSpace on the IDE 1 drive seems to present an easier display of what is actually there. Ide 2 shows no FreeSpace and presents C:w98 as two different sizes, in the two different windows.

I hope what I'm taking about is understandable.....I know C:w98 is in a 1000mb+ partition as indicated in the Partition Info window. My only question really is why is it shown as 7404mb with no FreeSpace in the first window ? And should this be changed to show Freespace after the actual 1043mb partition holding w98 as the other NTFS drive shows Freespace after its winnt 2000mb partition.

The conversion of the w98 partition to FAT16 *appears* (hah) to be easily done. I just want to have a clearer understanding of whats there before I do the convsion and install the backup NT.
