I looked at the SFA release when it came off the press, and wondered how it would apply in the scenario of multiple ISPs all trying to get a piece of the pie over a signle operator's plant. It doesn't. But I do see its value, in troubled situations, as a remedial or preventative measure... but that doesn't bring any incremental capabilities, as much as it allows for a form of triage. It is, nevertheless, warranted in many situations.

I still don't have a clue as to how they will do multiple broadband access arrangements with the standards that are now being implemented, and the new reverse-digital product doesn't help here much either, becasue it works between the hub and the head end, and avoids the coaxial segment of interest between the node and the end points (the homes).

ahhaha, I still don't know why you say the equipment suppliers will not perform well. HLIT is up 185% in the last 3 months,I consider that decent. It did not pull an ATHM,and I am sorry I did not invest in both. But it doesn't fit my discipline, and discipline is all I have. You have to remember that along with the hardware goes software, and interoperability and channel reuse is critical. HLIT is working with VBITS on injecting advertising from the Satellite feeds into the cable feeds. They are also working on QAM channel reuse at the node, for channels currently not being exploited. If they can reuse the channels, they free up bandwidth, and also produce a heckuva efficient system.
