I think this occurs with people, too, that there is a part in the brain that, if an electrode is placed there, a human will stimulate even to the point of not eating, etc. I was told this by a college philosophy professor, but I have not read the research myself. I do recall seeing a research report that compared this behavior to addictive drug-taking. I have known drug addicts over my lifetime, they clearly prefer taking drugs to eating, sleeping, or cleaning themselves. Not the same thing as ordinary drug-abusers, true addicts exhibit extreme behavior. My understanding is that it has something to do with the brain's reaction to dopamine.
