August, Well, we have well over a foot of snow here despite a few warm, sunny days to melt it down. It's hovering somewhere between 10 and 20 F. here but it's bright and sunny and the sky is a cloudless blue. Thanks for your list of seed companies, etc... I see that Johnny's Select Seeds is right up there at the beginning... Good catalogue, lots of seed varieties. A couple of my favourites up in Canada: Salt Spring Seeds P.O. Box 444, Ganges, Salt Spring Island, B.C. V8K 2W1saltspring.com (originally specialized in an amazing assortment of bean varieties from around the world. They now have all kinds of grains, lettuce and tomato varieties.. Wonderful assortment.) Richters Herbs, Goodwood, Ontario L0C 1A0richters.com (fantastic assortment of herb varieties -- seeds, plants, dried medicinal herbs, etc... I consider them about the top in their field. Visited them in summer '98. Stocked up heavily on herb plants of every kind.. :-] BTW, their website is really nice too... lots of archived newsletters on all aspects of herbs, herbalism. Very balanced information... they aren't afraid to print recent research into some of the negative stuff on herbal medicine along with the good stuff. William Dam Seeds P.O. Box 8400 Dundas, Ontario L9H 6M1 (not as wide a variety of seeds as some companies, but well-proven seed types for the Canadian climate). Pickering Nurseries Inc., 670 Kingston Rd., Pickering, Ont. L1V 1A6 (The BEST for roses...especially rare heritage varieties. Fantastic catalogue. I visited their rose fields outside of Pickering this summer. Truly amazing experience...acres and acres of a few hundred varieties of roses. Blew me away... definitely going back again). Ferncliff Gardens 8394 McTaggart Street Mission, B.C. V2V 6S6 (irises and peonies... good selection). Croc..;-}
