Looking for long term investment (10 years).
Is Microsoft the place to be? I want to invest some $ and forget about it a while. Any thoughts?

Equal access to cable lines is what I am worried about. I don't
know if cable lines were put by the companies or was there some
cash put in by governments in the USA. If the government had no
part in putting together this network---why would cable companies
be required to open up the lines? After all, they paid for it.

I don't know if in USA whether more than one cable service is
available in any one area--that is you have a choice of your cable
provider(in Canada -- it is one per area).

What I have noticed in Canada is that cable internet is the same price
if you consider a separate phone line for the net. It is definately
faster. Local cable operators also offer @home up here.

The alternatives to cable are slower and more costly. Any new
service will also have a high cost. It should take a while for
other internet routes to become accepted. In the meantime, there may
be a slow down in AOL new subscribers at some point down the road.
(1 year or so). I bet AOL management is worried about this problem.

RE: Yahoo. I heard there was going to be a split but am not sure.
I might just pick up some shares. If it gets added to the S & P,
lookout!

BTW--IF cable lines get opened up, then I think AOL should be a good
long term.
