re: The number of people that are connected to the Internet doubles every 100 days.

Vendit, that figure of doubling every 100 days has been often reported, and we discussed it at the "Last Mile" thread after it was brought up by Frank Coluccio in a skeptical way. I researched its origin, and found that it came from an estimate made by UUNET during a time when they were growing pretty fast. It was picked up by others and reported in Congress when they were having hearings on internet tax proposals. Further review of the numbers do not seem to justify this type of growth, however, except for isolated cases. The best validated estimates is that the internet connectivity overall is doubling every year, a growth rate that has been sustained now for several years. It will undoubtedly flatten out eventually, but it probably still has a few years left of doubling. Of course, invidividual companies and individual time periods might demonstrate a doubling every 100 days, but that is more of a case by case basis.

In either case, doubling every year is plenty fast growth!
