At any rate, Dell is safe for awhile - wouldn't forget about anything for 20 years though.

Dell is ONE of the places for long-term cash -- one of the best places. I agree with the two previous comments that 20 years is too long a time horizon. Personally, for long-term investments (5 years) I would recommend Dell, MSFT, CSCO, and INTC. AOL is another one to consider, but it should be monitored more closely for changes in the industry, especially with regard to bandwidth (who has it, who doesn't), advertising revenue, and international expansion.
