I don't disagree, but you did not answer the question. My own position is that no one has the right to force me to take care of strangers. I also believe that if a member of my family is so far gone that death is inevitable and imminent, no one has the right to force me to prolong that death. I may choose to do so for reasons of my own, but I don't want to be forced to do so.

Before all the government legislation, a person in that condition was attended to by private charities. Charity is a good thing, but it is NOT enforced altruism.

Some might argue--never I--that the State gets into the act because private charity is inefficient.
