Clarence, you never are going to be able to exit from
MSDOS when you boot from the floppy. What would you
be exiting to?

When you boot from the hard disk, DOS is a step along
the road to booting WIN98. When you exit command.com
(which is what EXIT does, it doesn't exit from DOS),
DOS does SOMETHING. In the win98 environment, it
can continue with booting Win98. When you've booted
from the floppy it doesn't have that option -- doesn't
know beans about Win98 -- so it runs command.com again
and you get another C prompt.

There's no technical reason that you couldn't boot DOS
from the floppy then continue booting from the hard
disk. That would give users just too damn much flexibility
to suite Mr. Gates is my guess. I can just picture his
thought processes: Can't have those users
doing what they WANT. Dangerous. Might get the idea
they're important or something. Gotta make 'em do
what WE want ...
