I would not go so far as to say that Nixon would have won a trial, but he might have. Many people with fewer resources would fight. Besides, there was reason to believe that the '60 election was stolen, and Nixon refused to demand an investigation for the good of the country. He was, indeed, capable of putting the countries interests first.

There was reason to believe that the '60 election was stolen, but Nixon refused to demand an investigation for the good of the country. Many people in Nixon's position in '74 would have fought. So perhaps he is to be commended for resigning...
