dale - amazing how these knee jerk plaitiudes arise: <<WE are not all born equal and none of us has equal opportunity and I don't think it is government's business to give us that>> I'm not advocating that the government helps the less fortunate be on the same footing as the capitalist pigs! but we don't live in a laissez faire society - we have a mixed economy - much as some people seem to pretend otherwise - look at Lott for example falling over himself to 'save Social Security' - it's a sacred cow. The whole concept of income tax involves a re-distribution of income. << Equal standing before the law yes (and we don't achieve that but we are far better than elsewhere) What a conceit - I mean the last part about being far better than elsewhere.
