Having said that, a shot in the dark: Possibly power off and on to reboot will reset something. Or maybe swap out the ATI card. Got another one? <g>

The first card I tried was the Matrox G100 AGP card. I did not load any Matrox drivers. I used standard VGA from device manager. When I tried to change from 16 to 256 colors she froze with the Win protection error ..and cannot write to ebios.

I changed to an ATI PCI expert..just picked one randomly<g> and tried to load the ATI drivers. Same problem. During the install process she booted, froze, I went through the process and then she worked fine, including the ATI properties functions. Maybe I should break out the manual and check some bios settings.

This thing seems to work like clock work..scary but she works. I tried changing to the CAS 2 setting and then I tried another video change. I changed from 24 mil to 16 mil colors. Went through the boot and sure enough she will not even go to safe mode. Pick confirm every step, opt for no to all questions, hit the power switch when I get a C prompt and she boots normally until I change a video setting again.

Who won the game?

BTW Just picked up another 17 gig at TJT (the wife asked me again how the new machine is coming. I think she is getting anxious.
